Engineered Cell Lines

Development of precision medicine relies on well-characterized experimental models that carry naive, or induced, or engineered genomic and epigenetic features targetable by certain treatment. Cell lines can serve as such in vivo and in vitro models by harboring abnormalities such as somatic and driver mutations, dysregulated gene expression and silencing, microsatellite instability, gene fusions, copy number amplification and loss of heterozygosity. In addition, cell lines can also be engineered to introduce sometimes rare-occurring abnormality that the engineered cell line shares identical genetic background with its parental cell line, thus providing a clearly contrasting pair to evaluate treatment specificity.
