Background

CD28 is a direct receptor of superantigen toxins broadens the scope of microbial pathogen recognition mechanism. CD28 plays a critical role in regulating immune responses both by enhancing effector T cell activation and differentiation and controlling the development and function of regulatory T cells. CD28 stimulation leads to recruitment of a beta-arrestin/phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) complex to rafts, resulting in down-regulation of cAMP levels.
